The following morning after the South Rim we hit the road for Colorado. This was the moment I had waited the whole trip for the much anticipated Four Corners. Despite the fact Jayme claimed it was worthless and a waste of time and money, to me it was a life long dream of being able to say I was at four places at once. As we approached we found out that is wasn't even OPEN!!! What! How did I not plan better. It would be under construction for another month. My disappointment quickly turned to anger. How dare they shut down my dream for stupid reconstruction :(
After this trauma we arrived in Cortaz to meet his Uncle Wayne for the first time. To our amazement after days of nothing but empty desert ( where even sage brush didn't grow) we found ourselves in lush farmland and civilization. A true oasis of sorts. We enjoyed our first hot shower in days and a real bed to sleep in. We where spoiled with hot meals and fun family stories.
After a good night sleep we headed to Mesa Verda with false anticipation after hearing his Dads high opinion on the sights. We found ourselves listening to a Ranger drone on about a bunch of nothing in sweltering heat of 115 degrees with a cranky toddler looking at sights they claimed where authentic other than the large portion they reconstructed to what they thought it would have looked like....Nice! Not sure what his Dad saw, but we missed the thrill in it.
After all of that we welcomed the invatation to spend another night at his Uncles. Before hitting the road we met another Uncle (Uncle Darwin) and one of Uncle Waynes daughters for the first time as well.
